Spring Break: Greece (Day 5)

Since it was a bit gloomy outside when we awoke, we decided that this day would be the day we would rent a car and drive the other half of the island. But I'm getting ahead of myself, first I went out to the lobby and grabbed my plate of cake, tea and orange juice and sat outside in the "sun" enjoying my breakfast. I remembered I saved a cookie from the bakery the day prior so I obviously ate that too.
We ended up getting this tiny 4-door car that was bright orange, nothing says "I'm a tourist" more than that...well my blonde hair and white skin did too but I'm just sayin'.
THE BEACH! Phwoar! Lemme just say seeing this beautiful blue water in person is something amazing. I have never that color before and I took far too many photos to compensate for my untraveled eyes.

Some exploring....
We found a really cool cave thing...
This is how I look when I travel...glued.to.camera.
 And a church..
And the rest of the beach front....
Then we drove up this high hill. And it had an impressive view...
After the beach (which the sun made a quick appearance) we travelled around the rest of the other side of the island visiting the red beach, the black beach, and yes the white beach (clever names no?).
(The photo directly below was a view of Thira where we were staying, it's the spot hit by the sunlight)
 The Red Beach...
We went out to this lighthouse which is on the very tip of the other half of the island.
Up next! We explored Perissa which is a tiny little town and has the BEST FOOD ever! We stopped in a little bakery and bought pretty much the whole store, yum yum yum. The baker ran out after us and gave us free treats because she enjoyed our company($$$) and laughs that we provided. After a while we decided to go find take away pizza and watch the sunset. We tried three different restaurants, stopping at the last one. It was on the beachside of the town, when we walked in I immediately felt like I had stepped into My Big Fat Greek Wedding. The women of the family were all sitting in the booths laughing and telling stories while the men of all ages in the family were working on fixing up the restaurant before the prime season of tourists began. We were welcomed in and got the most delicious pizza I have had in a long time. It was good timing as well because once we had our hot pizzas, the sun was beginning to set. The 4 of us raced back to the car and drove as much as we could to the end of the island, stopping off on a hillside where me and Meagan grabbed our box of pizza and sat atop a church roof and watched the sun go down. Kelsey and Ruth stayed in the car as it was extremely windy and cold. The sky was the most magnificent color of hot pink and orange I have ever seen. Then the red sun went down and I am telling you it was STUNNING.
(There's the light house on the tip if you look closely on the above photo!)

Stunning.

Katie, your pics are terrific. The sunset shots are gorgeous. Don and I were in some of the places you visited in Santorini. It really has both charming and spectacular scenery. Glad you girls had so much fun and weren't the least disappointed in your spring break. Now, back to the books. PGP

Looks like you dipped your painted toenails into the beautiful blue blue water.
